Fire Extinguishers
Under the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it is a legal requirement that a maintenance plan is in place for all fire safety equipment, this includes fire extinguishers.
In the event of a fire, fire extinguishers are normally the first thing people will look for to tackle the fire. Fire extinguishers not only prevent fires from spreading but they can also allow a person to safely evacuate an area.
Ensuring your fire extinguisher operates when needed, is vital and the only way to ensure this is regular maintenance and servicing.
Annual Maintenance of your extinguisher in compliance with BS5306 helps to ensure that your extinguisher can be relied upon if needed, and this is where FireTeK can help. Our fully trained and qualified engineers carefully inspect each extinguisher to ensure they are in the required working condition.
Fire Extinguisher Servicing and maintenance should be completed in compliance with BS5306, we will complete the all works on every fire extinguisher in compliance with BS5306.
Evacuation alert systems
Following the tragedy of Grenfell, many things had to change in the construction and management of high rise residential buildings. BS 8629:2019 is the new standard that sets out requirements for Evacuation Alert Control and Indicating Equipment (EACIE), to be used by the Fire and Rescue Service in the event of emergencies in apartment blocks.
An evacuation alert system is an alarm system operated by a control panel inside an apartment block for use by the Fire and Rescue Service when they attend an emergency. BS 8629 requires an alarm sounder to be situated in each flat in a block - with the control panel capable of triggering evacuation alerts for specific areas or floors within a building. It does not need to incorporate a two-way communication mechanism or a Voice Alarm System, but each flat must be fitted with an alarm sounder and a visual alarm device (VAD).
Disabled refuge systems
A disabled refuge system in your building is a life saving resource that will make sure everyone on site has a safe place to go should an emergency arise and assistance is required to quickly leave the building safely.
All commercial buildings with more than one storey must have disabled refuge points installed.
FireTeK can assist in the design, installation, commission and servicing of your refuge points.
Emergency Lighting
Emergency light services will be carried out in completed in compliance with BS5266. BS5226 is a series of Codes of practice on emergency lighting systems
Emergency lighting is required in both commercial and residential developments to provide lighting to facilitate escape in the event of a power failure, if it fails to operate correctly it could leave you in the dark.
Emergency Lighting must be drained for a 3-hour period as per the requirements of British Standards. Therefore, the time required on site would be slightly longer depending on how many fittings and switches there are.
